ASPMN® proudly offers four different Courses that provide the latest in pain management education along with Nursing Continuing Professional Development (NCPD) Contact Hours. Competitively selected ASPMN® Master Faculty teach courses at a location of your choice. Several courses are also available online.


ASPMN®’s Master Faculty are ANCC Pain Management Certified Nurses (PMGT-BC) and ASPMN® members who are experts in their fields. For onsite courses, faculty are available to interact with participants throughout the day.

ASPMN® Courses

ASPMN® PAIN MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION PREPARATION COURSE

The Pain Management Certification Preparation Course includes information from the most recent ANCC Test Content Outline and References for the ANCC Certification in Pain Management Nursing Exam. The course is designed to help participants who are preparing for certification to identify strengths and areas needing improvement before taking the exam.

Hospitals and other health care organizations are encouraged to promote national certification in pain management nursing and to offer a Certification Preparation Course.

The focus areas for the certification exam and this course include the Science of Pain; Pain Assessment; Planning of Care; Non-Pharmacologic Interventions; Pharmacologic Interventions; Education and Advocacy; and Ethics and Regulatory Principles.  This course is offered in person, remotely, or for purchase as an online asynchronous course.

Target Audience:

  • Nurses preparing to take the ANCC Pain Management Certification Exam to earn the credential, PMGT-BC . The course is a review course and is not appropriate for learners who are new to pain management.

ASPMN® FUNDAMENTALS OF PAIN MANAGEMENT

Fundamentals of Pain Management offers information about pain and pain perception, the basics of a comprehensive screening and pain assessment, strategies to plan for effective pain relief using nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic strategies, and important information about pain management in people with substance use disorders. Participants will gain knowledge and skills to assess pain and provide safe, effective, multimodal pain care. The course is offered in person, remotely, or for purchase as an asynchronous online course.

Target Audience:

  • Nurses and other health care providers who are new to pain management and wish to learn the essentials of comprehensive pain assessment and management.

ASPMN® GERIATRIC PAIN MANAGEMENT COURSE: MANAGING PAIN IN OLDER ADULTS

Managing Pain in Older Adults addresses pain management needs unique to older adults. The course focuses on the epidemiology of pain in older adults, common painful conditions experienced by older persons, assessment of pain in cognitively intact and cognitively impaired older adults, the use of non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions in older people, and strategies to address barriers to effective pain management in older adults. This course was developed through a grant from the Hartford Foundation. It is offered in person, remotely, or for purchase as an online asynchronous course.

Target Audience:

  • Nurses and other health care providers interested in pain and pain management in older adults.

ASPMN® ADVANCED PHARMACOLOGY COURSE

The Advanced Pharmacology Course provides comprehensive pharmacology content aimed at health care providers who are experienced in pain management and wish to learn in-depth information about medications for pain management and pharmacologic strategies to enhance effective multi-modal pain care. This course is offered in person, remotely, or for purchase as an online asynchronous course

Target Audience:

  • Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, other Advance Practice Nurses, and Registered Nurses or other health care providers who have solid knowledge and experience in the use of medications for pain.
